Jailed former President Park Geun-hye is refusing to watch television or read newspapers, a report claims.
Prisoners can watch TV news shows during a designated period. But officials at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, where Park is imprisoned, said she "chose not to," according to TV network Channel A on Saturday. She also refused to read daily newspapers.
The network said she "has blocked the news outside to concentrate on the upcoming trial for her alleged crimes."
Seoul Central District Court did not demand that Park appear for pretrial arrangements. But Park is obliged to attend the official trial that will start from May 23. It will be her first appearance at the court since her arrest on Mar. 31.
Park faces 18 charges including bribery, abuse of power and mishandling classified state information. She has denied all the allegations.
Her defense counsel consists of seven lawyers.
