Seoul's Jung-gu office will launch a campaign to boost domestic interest in the Myeongdong tourism district on Apr. 17.
The campaign will focus on helping Myeongdong, where sales have dropped sharply as Chinese tourists stay away as part of China's retaliation against the deployment of a high-altitude missile defense system in South Korea.
Starting with taekkyeon ― a traditional Korean martial art from the Joseon Dynasty ― performance, streets from Myeongdong subway station to Myeongdong Art Theater and Snow Square will feature various performances.
More than 150 people, from the Seoul Tourism Association, Special Committee for Myeongdong Tourist Zone, Namdaemun Police Station to local merchants, interpreter guides and honorary tourist sheriffs, will take part.
"To attract tourists, the district office will make efforts to improve historical and cultural resources such as Seosomun Historical Park, Seoae University Cultural Street, Hanyang Fortress Dasan trail and Gwanghuimun Cultural Village," said a Jung-gu official.
