Lee Joon-seok was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison on Nov. 12, 2015, for negligence contributing to the deaths of more than 300 passengers in April 2014.
"Lee doesn't want to talk about anything to do with the Sewol," a Suncheon Prison official told Donga Ilbo.
"He no doubt knows about the news of the ferry being salvaged. But he has shown no noticeable change in his behavior and is acting as usual."
Lee, who is in a group cell, makes envelopes in the prison.
He is reportedly wary of his story reaching the public, and meets as few visitors as possible.
Lee told the Sewol Special Investigation Committee last year,"I actually gave the order to abandon ship (during the accident), but, in an effort to repent, I didn't mention it during my trial."But crew members have denied this.
