A farmer's son has been booked for assaulting a Myanmar migrant worker who asked for his hours to be changed, according to Bucheon Sosa police station Monday.
The man, 33, allegedly assaulted two workers at his father's paprika farm in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province, last July.
The son was booked without arrest on Mar. 20.
One assault reportedly happened after a worker asked the man to change his working hours because of the heat.
After the assault, the worker fled from the farm.
He reported his case only recently when police held a seminar for migrant workers.
The man said he had not reported the case earlier because he feared he might be deported as an illegal immigrant.
"The man is staying at a shelter for foreign migrants," a police official said.
"Foreigners are permitted by Korean law to extend their stay if they have been harmed.
"We will cooperate with immigration to give him a certificate of alien registration and help him find a new job."
