A Korea University student, who often voiced his opinion on equal rights and fought against sexual harassment, was booked on Monday for taking "upskirt" photos, according to news outlet MBN.
The student used a hidden camera to take the photos on a subway staircase station near the university, police said..
Just last year the student, who at the time was a student union president, demanded stern punishment for those implicated in a sexual harassment scandal.
The scandal involved several Korea University male students sexually objectifying their female colleagues through KakaoTalk, a mobile messenger.
The student was also a former member of the university's sex equality committee.
"The pictures are not of my girlfriend," rambled the student in an interview with MBN. "That is all. I would like to say I am sorry."
A Korea University spokesperson said the student would be punished.
"The student was caught in the act with sufficient proof," said a university official. "We will punish him based on the prosecution charges."
