Amid the fierce protests in Hong Kong, demanding that Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying step down from China's authoritative rule, the leader's daughter has angered social media network users with her comments.
Also referred to as the "Vain Princess" of Hong Kong, or the "Chinese Paris Hilton," Leung Chai-yan posted inflammatory remarks on her Facebook page that appear to mock the people of Hong Kong.
"Yes _ funded by all you, Hong Kong taxpayers! Thank you so much," she wrote in response to criticism of the necklace in her profile picture, "So are all my beautiful shoes and dresses and clutches!"
Some Facebook posts called her necklace a "dog collar", and suggested that she "pay attention to the news" and "care about the Hong Kong people."
"If you have conscience, please help Hong Kong and tell your father to listen to his people," says a comment on her Facebook page.
The embattled leader's daughter attracted even stronger animosity with condescending remarks such as "Most of you here are probably unemployed ... it's OK _ your mother still loves you.
"Actually, considering the standard of English I've skimmed through at times, I doubt you'd even understand what the term ‘social media platform' means,"
Various news outlets, including the South China Morning Post and the BBC news, reported Leung's controversial postings. Leung graduated from studying law at the London School of Economics last year.
After demonstrations protesting against the government and police use of tear gas and batons, her father ordered the government and police to "take all necessary actions to restore social order."
