The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) expects Sunday's heavy rain to continue through the week.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected nationwide Monday and Tuesday with more than 20 millimeters falling in an hour in some areas, according to the KMA.
About 250 millimeters is expected to fall until Wednesday. The rain is expected to reach the southern region, including Gwangju and Busan, later this week.
Typhoon "Nan Madol" is also expected to affect Jeju Island until Tuesday morning.
On Sunday, the KMA issued a heavy rain alert for Incheon, parts of North Chungcheong, Gangwon and Gyeonggi Provinces and a heavy rain warning for the central mountainous areas in Gangwon Province.
The deluge has raised safety concerns, with some places closing.
Cheonggyecheon stream is closed as of 8:30 p.m. Sunday, while some parts of the highway and roads in southern part of Gyeonggi Province, Daejeon and Cheongju, North Chungcheong province have been closed.
The rain also flooded 35 houses in Gyeonggi Province and 738 houses in Seoul.
"Please keep track of heavy rain alerts or warnings and avoid going outside in such areas," said a KMA official.
