A district police department has published photos from its community outreach project that helps mentally challenged students get a study room at home.
According to the Gwangju District Police Department's Facebook page, "The love house project" had helped a mentally disabled woman who took on the role of mother to her two younger sisters.
"We couldn't simply walk away when we found all the fungus on the family's walls and toilets ― the sanitation was simply terrible and there were black spots everywhere in the house," the police department posted on Facebook.
The department then reached out to NGO Gwangju Talent Donation Center to collaborate in a project to clean the houses and furnish study rooms for people in need.
"I want to express thanks to the officers and all the volunteers for making our house beautiful, and giving me a room to study in," said the eldest sister surnamed Kim.
"I want to try my best to study hard and be a help to somebody else, too."
