'We don't want a unified Korean Peninsula': Hillary Clinton

    Hillary Clinton
A WikiLeaks document leaked on Apr. 12 quotes former U.S. Secretary of State and presidential contender Hillary Clinton as saying the U.S. government does not want a unified Korea.

The comment was made during a private paid speech to Goldman Sachs staff in 2013.

"China doesn't want to unify Korea, but they can't really like a nutty nuclear power on their border. What are their interests and what are they going to help us do?" asks CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

Clinton replies, "We don't want a unified Korean peninsula, because if there were one South Korea it would be dominant for the obvious economic and political reasons."

She said the U.S. and China did not want a unified Korea because it would be more powerful than what the two countries preferred.

Clinton added that the U.S. did not want North Koreans to cause more problems than the system could handle.

WikiLeaks said the comments revealed Clinton's stance on North Korea because they were made in June 4, 2013, soon after she resigned as Secretary of State in February the same year to campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
