Tving’s new original series, “A Bloody Lucky Day,” which garnered high expectations after the first two episodes premiered at this year’s Busan International Film Festival last month, is finally set to roll out on Nov. 24.
The suspense thriller series, based on the webcomic of the same name, revolves around Oh Taek (Lee Sung-min), financially struggling taxi driver. One day, he experiences a lucrative day after having a dream about a pig, which represents good luck. As he is about to call it a day, he meets a customer, Geum Hyuk-soo (Yoo Yeon-seok), who offers to pay an enormous amount of money for a long-distance ride.
Oh takes the job, which could help pay for his daughter’s tuition, but soon realizes he made a terrible mistake when he finds out his customer in the backseat is a serial killer.
The 10-part series is a series directorial debut for filmmaker Pil Gam-seong, who led the 2021 thriller film, “Hostage: Missing Celebrity.”
“(The series) stirred a desire to take on the challenge to create a 10-episode series that follows a story within limited space and time. The road trip movie combined with a thriller appealed to me greatly,” the director said during a press conference for the series, held at CGV in Yongsan District, on Thursday.
“The taxi is a small but familiar space. So there were concerns that if camera angles were portrayed inaccurately or exaggerated, it could give a sense of unfamiliarity. My task was to make (scenes) as realistic as possible while keeping the tension in diverse ways.”

Lee, who made a strong impression with his role as a conglomerate chairman in the hit series, “Reborn Rich,” last year, shared that his goal was to create a completely different character from the previous one.
“The reason I chose this series after playing a chairman is that (this character) is very different from the previous one. I felt I could offer a more distinct character with this one. At the beginning, I would constantly ask if I sounded like a taxi driver or a chairman to the director while filming,” he said.
He added that creating suspense while driving on the road was a difficult job.
“It was not easy to respond to Hyuk-soo’s chilling story while focusing on driving. The director said I wouldn’t be able to stare (at Hyuk-soo) for so long because I would get into an accident if it was on the actual road, so I had to stare shortly,” he said.
“There were challenging aspects on the set, like scenes where I had to react while driving or to portray myself contemplating, which was more uncomfortable than I expected, but it was a valuable experience.”
The director shared that the series adaptation is an expanded version of the original webcomic, with additional background information and character, Hwang Soon-kyu (Lee Jung-eun), who chases after Hyuk-soo for killing her son.
“Unlike the original story, I focused on revolving the story around Oh Taek, so I had to include a lot of background information about that character. And I also thought it would be good to have someone trying to uncover the truth about Hyuk-soo. So, I added the character Hwang Soon-gyu,” he said.
The first six episodes of the series will open this Friday, and the rest in the coming weeks.
