Actors Yeo Jin-goo and Cho Yi-hyun have signed on for the much anticipated remake of the 2002 time-travel romance film, "Ditto," the production company, Gogo Studio, said Thursday.
Originally starring Yoo Ji-tae and Kim Ha-neul, the film centers on a romance that transcends time. A female college student living in 1979 and a male college student from 2000 are somehow able to talk to each other using an old radio. It involves a blend of fantasy, romance and drama.
In the new remake, Yeo has been selected to play Yong, a mechanical engineering student living in 1995. Cho, who shot to fame with the Netflix series "All of Us Are Dead," will take on the role of Moo-nee, a sociology student living in 2021.
Debuting as a child actor in the 2005 film, "Sad Movie," Yeo has starred in hit dramas such as "Hotel Del Luna" (2019) and "Beyond Evil" (2021). Making her debut in 2018, Cho has mainly appeared in numerous TV series, including "School 2021" and "Hospital Playlist" (2020-2021)
The cast includes other rising stars. Actor Na In-woo, well known for his roles in "Mr. Queen" (2020) and "River Where the Moon Rises" (2021), will portray Moo-nee's friend, Young-ji, while Kim Hye-yoon will star as Yong's first love, Han-sol. Kim previously starred in "Sky Castle" (2018-2019) and "Snowdrop" (2021).
Most recently, she took the first leading role in the mystery drama film "The Girl on a Bulldozer," and is in talks to star in the drama adaptation of a popular webtoon, "Us at 29."
The remake will be directed by Seo Eun-young, known for her film "Go Back." Seo won the Distribution Award at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and was invited to the Warsaw International Film Festival in 2020. "Ditto" will start filming in May.
