It’s quiet while Tim grinds chum, alone. The celebratory music can only be heard faintly in the distance. Tim sighs. Flint picks up the scissors and dramatically cuts the ribbon, which dramatically falls on the floor. Suddenly, a flock of Ratbirds takes off. Steve senses something and starts screaming and then runs off. The wind picks up.
57. 내/외부. 낚시용품점. 츄앤스왈로우. 같은 시간
팀이 혼자 묵묵히 낚시 밑밥을 갈고 있는 동안 기념 음악이 먼 곳에서 어렴풋이 들려오고 팀은 한숨을 쉰다. 한편, 플린트는 가위를 들어서 띠가 바닥으로 떨어지도록 인상적으로 자른다. 갑자기, 렛버드 무리가 날아오른다. 스티브는 무언가 감지하고 고함을 지르며 도망간다. 바람이 불기 시작한다.
STEVE: Danger! Danger! Danger!
스티브: 위험해! 위험해! 위험해!
Sam and everyone sneezes. Flint tastes the air.
샘과 모두들 재채기한다. 플린트가 바람을 맛 본다.
FLINT: Salt and pepper wind?
플린트: 소금과 후추 바람?
Smack! As Flint is hit by a giant dry leaf, he sniffs it.
철썩! 거대한 낙엽이 플린트를 부딪치자 냄새를 맡는다.
FLINT: Oregano.
플린트: 오레가노.
A look of horror is in Flint’s eyes. A massive spaghetti twister is forming, ten blocks away, heading toward them.
공포에 질린 플린트의 눈. 10블록 떨어진 곳에서 거대한 스파게티 토네이도가 발생
하여 그들 쪽으로 향한다.
FLINT: Mamma Mia!
Flint turns back to Sam, who gives him an angry glare. She runs off towards her van.
FLINT: Sam, wait, no! I can turn it off! (determined) I can turn it off.
플린트: 맘마 미아!
플린트는 화가난 채 자신을 바라보는 샘을 돌아본다. 그녀가 밴을 향해 뛴다.
플린트: 샘, 기다려요. 아냐! 내가 멈추게 할 수 있어! (단호
하게) 내가 멈추게 할 수 있어.
He gives a primal scream and runs towards his lab. Huge meatballs smash down around him as everyone else runs away in the opposite direction.
플린트는 괴성을 지르며 연구실을 향해 뛴다. 거대한 미트볼이 플린트 주변에 떨어져 박살나고 모든 사람들은 정반대로 도망간다.
FLINT: All right, kid, it’s all gonna be okay. Oh, no.
플린트: 괜찮아, 얘야, 모든 것이 괜찮아질 거야. 오, 이런.
Flint gets sucked into the twister. A telephone pole flies in front of him and he keeps running on it like a ramp, at the end, he’s running in the air past a man in a tub.
플린트는 토네이도 속으로 휘말린다. 전봇대가 앞에서 날아오자 전봇대 위로 내달린다. 전봇대 끝까지 달린 후, 그는 욕조 안에 있는 남자를 지나치며 휩쓸린다.
FLINT: Pardon me.
MAN IN TUB: Pardon me.
플린트: 죄송해요.
욕조 안 남자: 죄송하긴요.
Then he reaches Joe Towne, sitting in his car as it flies through the eye of the storm.
그러다 태풍의 눈 속으로 이끌려 차안에 앉아있는 조 타운에게 다다른다.
FLINT: Excuse me ...
JOE TOWNE: Aw, no problem ...
플린트: 실례를...
조 타운: 아유, 천만에...
Now he’s almost swept up in the twister and loses his lab coat.
그는 토네이도에 거의 휘말려버려 실험 가운을 잃는다.
FLINT: No!
플린트: 안돼!
Flint keeps air-running over pieces of debris while garlic bread, stop signs, mailboxes grunting and groaning as though they were stairs until he’s back on the ground, in front of the lab. Steve’s there waiting for him outside of the Port-A-Potty.
플린트는 실험실 앞의 땅까지 착지할 때, 계속 마늘빵, 멈춤 표지판, 우편함 같은 파편 조각들 위로 계단같이 한층 한층 안간힘을 다해 내려온다. 스티브는 포타포티 앞에서 플린트를 기다리고 있다.
STEVE: Gummi bears.
FLINT: Not now, Steve.
스티브: 곰돌이 젤리.
플린트: 지금은 안돼, 스티브.
Steve hops onto his shoulder and they enter the Port-A-Potty.
스티브가 그의 어깨 위로 뛰어오르고 그들은 포타포티로 들어간다.
INT. ROOFLESS RESTAURANT. DAY
The cruise ships back up and peel out of town as fast as possible. The crowds run panicking while the twister destroys the power station. In the restaurant, everyone holds out their plates expectantly.
내부. 지붕 없는 레스토랑. 낮
유람선들은 후진하여 가능한 한 빨리 마을에서 떠나버린다. 군중들은 토네이도가 발전소를 파괴시키는 동안 허둥지둥 도망친다. 아직 레스토랑 안에서는 모두 기대에 찬 상태로 접시를 내민다.
WAITER: Condiments? Salt? Pepper?
Finally, giant spaghetti and sauce buries them.
웨이터: 양념? 소금? 후추?
마침내 거대한 스파게티와 소스가 그들을 덮는다.
SAM: This is Sam Sparks live from Chewandswallow, where a spaghetti twister ...
WNN ANCHOR: (insets Sam) Whoa, whoa, Sam, hey! We love a good storm over here, but you look like a nerd!
SAM: (ignoring him) Patrick, several children are stranded in the path of this tomato tornado.
샘: 츄앤스왈로우에서 생중계 중인 샘 스파크입니다. 방금 스파게티 토네이도가...
WNN 앵커: (뉴스앵커가 샘의 말 중간에) 어, 어, 샘, 이봐요! 우리는 굉장한 폭풍을 좋아하지만, 당신 바보처럼 보여요!
샘: (그를 무시하며) 패트릭, 아이들 몇 명이 태풍의 진로 안에 고립됐어요.

해설:
세상에 공짜는 없다. 환경을 인공적으로 쥐어짠 대가가 음식 환경 재앙으로 돌아온다.
플리트는 수습을 하기 위해 “Sam, wait, no! I can turn it off!”, “All right, kid, it’s all gonna be okay.”라고 말한다. “좀 지켜 봅시다”는 Let’s wait and see.라고 한다.
그러나 곧 “Pardon me.”라고 사과한다. 여기서 Pardon me의 경우 사과할 때는 끝을 내려 I beg your pardon.(죄송합니다.)이라고 발음한다. 또한 모르는 사람에게 말을 걸거나, 상대방의 의견에 반대할 때는 I beg your pardon, but ~(실례입니다만~_ 처럼 끝을 내려 발음한다. 마지막으로 상대방의 말을 못 알아들었을 때는 Pardon me?(뭐라구요?) 처럼 끝을 올려 발음한다.
한번 망가진 환경은 재앙으로 나타나고 멈출 기미를 보이지 않는다. 샘은 현장에서 “This is Sam Sparks live from Chewandswallow, where a spaghetti twister...”라고 보도한다. 뉴스 리포팅할 때 기본 구문으로 활용하기 좋다.“This is + 이름 + from + 장소 where+ 설명”을 하면 된다. 플린트는 이 위기를 어떻게 헤쳐나갈 것인가.
