데이빗: 걱정마. 히틀러가 그들을 다 정리했어.
버티: 히틀러는 누가 정리할 건데?
DAVID: Where's the bloody twenty-three?
데이빗: wops장, 23년산은 어디 있는 거야?
He turns, looks up at the wine rack.

BERTIE: (angry) And you put that woman in our mother's suite!
DAVID: Mamma's not still in the bed, is she?
BERTIE: That's not funny.
DAVID: Here it is. Wallis likes the very best.
버티: (화를 내며) 그런데 저 여자가 어머니 방을 쓰게 하다니!
데이빗: 어머니가 설마 거기 계신 것은 아니겠지?
버티: 농담할 기분 아냐.
데이빗: 여기 있었군. 월리스는 최상품을 좋아해.
BERTIE: I don't care what woman you carry out on with at night, as long as you...(follows him)..show up for duty in the morning.
버타: 형이 밤에 어떤 여--여자랑 어울리던지 상관 안할게---(그를 따라간다) ---아침에는 직무에 충실해 줘.
David stops, turns to him.
데이빗이 멈춰 서서 그에게 돌아선다.
DAVID: Wallis is not just some woman I'm carrying on with. We intend to marry.
BERTIE: Excuse me?
DAVID: She's filing a petition for divorce.
BERTIE: Good God.
데미빗: 월리스는 그냥 어울리는 여자가 아니야. 우리 결혼할 거야.
버티: 뭐라고?
데이빗: 그사람 이혼 수속 중이야.
버티: 맙소사---
BERTIE: Can't you just give her a nice house and a title?
DAVID: I'm not having her as my mistress.
버티: 그냥 좋은 집이랑 작위만 줘도 되잖아?
데이빗: 난 그여자를 첩으로 두려는 게 아냐.
BERTIE: The Church doesn't recognise divorce, and you are the --Head of the Church.
DAVID: Haven't I any rights?
BERTIE: Many privileges.
버티: 성공회는 이혼을 인정하지 않아. 형은 성공회의--수장이잖아.
데이빗: 나는 권리도 없니?
버티: 수많은 특권이 있지.
He turns, foloows David up the stairs.
그는 돌아서서 데이빗을 쫓아 층계를 올라간다.
DAVID: Not the same thing.
데이빗: 그거랑은 다르지.
DAVID: Your beloved common man may marry for love. Why not me?
BERTIE: If you were -- a common man, on what basis could you -- possibly claim to be King?
DAVID: It sounds like you've studied our wretched Constitution.
BERTIE: Sounds like you haven't.
DAVID: That's what this is about. Brushing up.(stops and turns) Hence the elocution lessons. That's the scoop around town.
BERTIE: (stares to him) I'm trying to...
데이빗: 보통 남자가 사랑을 하면 사랑을 위해서 결혼하는 거 아냐? 왜 나는 안 돼?
버티: 형이 그---그냥 남자라면 와---왕이 되었겠어?
데이빗: 황실 법전을 엻심히 공부한 것 같구나.
버티: 형은 하나도 안 한 것 같네.
데이빗: 그게 그런거 였구나. 열심히 공부하는 거 말이야. (서서 돌아선다) 발성 수업도 그래서 받는 거구나. 그러니까 소문이 떠돌지.
버티: (그를 응시한다) 내---내---내말은---
David shakes his head and stutters.
데이빗이 고개를 가로저으며 말을 더듬거린다.
DAVID: Yearning for a larger audience, are we, B-B-B-Bertie?
BERTIE: Don't...(stammers)
DAVID: What's that? I'm sorry, I...
데이빗: 대규모 청중 앞에서 연설하고 싶은 거네, 버---버---버--버티?
버티: 그---그게---(더듬는다)

해설:
버티와 데이빗이 언쟁을 벌인다. 버티는 “Is kinging laying off eighty- staff and buying more pearls for Wallis...”라고 공격한다. 직원을 ‘해고하다’는 fire, dismiss, discharge, lay off, let~go라고 한다. 돌려서 이야기하고 싶은 경우 The company didn't renew my contract라고 할 수 있다.
데이빗의 여자 문제에 대해선 “I don't care what woman you carry out on with at night, as long as you...(follows him)..show up for duty in the morning.”라고 한다. I don't care는 남에게 피해를 주지 않는 한 자유가 보장되는 서양 문화를 상징하는 표현 중 하나다. carry out with는 ‘남녀 간에 시시덕 거리다, 바람을 피우다’는 의미이므로 조심해서 사용해야 한다. as long as 는 ‘~한~하다’라는 조건을 나타내는 접속사이므로 유용하게 사용할 수 있다. ex) Drinking is all right as long as you don't do it to excess.(무리하지 않는 한 음주는 괜찮다.)
데이빗은 “It sounds like you've studied our wretched Constitution.”라고 비웃는다. look/sound/feel like는 상대방에게 느낌을 전달할 수 있는 표현으로 네이티브 스피커들이 애용한다.
