BERTIE: Nannies. Not my first nanny. She, she... (glances at him)... she loved David. Hated me. When we were ... presented to my parents for the daily viewing she would... she’d pinch me, so that I’d cry and be -- handed back to her immediately. And then she would... (stammers)
LIONEL: Sing it.
BERTIE: (sings) Then she wouldn’t feed me. Far, far away…

Lionel stares at Bertie.

LIONEL: What about your brother Johnnie?

Bertie stares at Lionel.
버티는 라이널을 본다.
LIONEL: Were you close to him?
BERTIE: Johnnie... (stammers)... a sweet boy. (mumbles) Had... epilepsy. And he was... ‘different’. He died at -- thirteen. Hidden from view. (mumbles) I... I’m told it’s not -- catching.
LIONEL: D’you want a top-up?
BERTIE: Please.
라이널: 서로 친했나요?
버 티: 조니는… (더듬는다)… 착한 아이였소. (중얼거린다) 간… 간질병이 있었지만… 날 다… 다르게 대했지. 13살 때 죽었는데 아무도 못 보게 했소. (중얼거린다) 내가 알기로는 저… 전염병이 아니었는데…

버 티: 그래요.
Lionel stands, picks up Bertie’s empty glass. Bertie looks at the model aeroplane in his hands. Lionel opens the cupboard door, takes out the decanter.
BERTIE: You know... Lionel, you’re... you’re the first ordinary Englishman...
LIONEL: Australian.
BERTIE: ...I’ve ever really spoken to.
라이널이 일어서 버티의 빈잔을 잡는다. 버티는 손에 든 모형 비행기를 바라본다. 라이널이 찬장을 열고 술병을 꺼낸다.
